Welcome!

Meet Chase

Hello! My name is Chase Privett, and I am an Assistant Professor of Political Science at Morningside University in Sioux City, Iowa. I received my Ph.D. in political science from the University of California, Los Angeles in June 2024.

At Morningside University, I teach classes in political science broadly with a focus on American politics and methodology. In Fall 2024, I am teaching two sections of “American Government” and one class titled “Campaigns and Elections.” In Spring 2025, I will be teaching “State and Local Politics,” “Research Methods,” and “Elementary Statistics and Probability.”

My research largely focuses on group identities in American politics with an emphasis on generations. Specifically, my research focuses on whether and to what extent generational cohorts have crystallized as salient social identities within the United States. My dissertation is titled “Age-Old Divisions: How Generational Identities Become Political Groups.” In my dissertation, I use two novel survey experiments to investigate whether people will express stronger ties to their generational identity when faced with a threatening cue against their generational group.

In my free time, you can find me attending the newest musicals coming into town and rooting for the LA Dodgers!
